Here's my art for Mandraco's lovely story "With Open Eyes" for the Gabriel big bang. Such a cute pairing! Drawn digitally with Sketchbook Express on Intuos tablet. It took me foreverrrr to get their faces to look decent. @_@;

(Of note: I never use this journal anymore except to comment on other people's stuff. Find me on Tumblr, AO3, and DeviantArt instead. :3 )

Filters & Friends-Only

This journal is friends-only. If you would like to view entries, please leave a comment and tell me where I know you from and what filters you would like to be on.

The filters available are as follows:
- Angst - Sometimes I need to get things off my chest. They may not necessarily be rooted in reality.
- Memes - Everybody posts silly quizzes and pass-it-ons sometimes.
- Mission - Things related to Truth of the Spoon.
- Musing - I wax philosophical and occasionally eloquent.
- Poetry - I want people to read it but I don't want to throw away first publishing rights.
- Queer - Gender/sexuality comments, rants, or education.
- School - Everyday stuff, classes, frisbee, work, and/or location specific stuff.
- Sex - Not necessarily the sex I'm having, but I talk about sex kind of a lot.
- Spirituality - Pagan, Unitarian Universalist, House of Netjer, conversations with deity, divination, etc.
- Writing - May either be bits posted for critique or help, or just metawriting.
- Random - Grab bag; may be subdivided if there is a need.

Please also let me know if you don't want to hear about a certain topic ever. It's conceivable that I will at times be angsty about gender, or musing about religion, or writing poetry about sex. I will try to select the best filter for the individual post, and strike a balance between flooding pages with multiple entries and shoving many unrelated topics into one post.

Make wise choices. If it's going to be awkward for you to look me in the eye if you read what I might have to say on any of these topics, don't select that filter. This is a place for me to hammer out my thoughts and be as in depth as I want to be, which is less likely in everyday conversations. I'm not going to turn anyone away from a filter they request.

Holiday Giving Wishlist 2009 [meme]

Holiday giving-type meme: I’m all for it. Here’s the cut and paste (from Essin' Em):

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered…whatever you’re comfortable with) to your LJ or Myspace or Blog. The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it’s your address or just an email address at which you can be contacted by potential wish-grantors, real or imaginary.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your post, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friends list/blogroll/RSS feeds (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it’s in your heart to do so, make someone’s wish come true. Sometimes someone’s trash is another’s treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don’t want or a gift certificate you won’t use–or even know where you could get someone’s dream purebred Basset Hound for free–do it.

You needn’t spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn’t to put people out, it’s to provide everyone a chance to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not–it’s your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just…wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you’ll have the joy of knowing you made someone’s holiday special.

Put up your own list and I'll see what I can do (comment here with it if you want to make sure I see it). If you can hook me up with any of these things, comment here or contact me through email. I will love you forever.

Here"s the ListCollapse )

Let me know yours!

My NaNoWriMo playlist

Face the Music (Kascade Club Mix Edit) - Conjure One

I call it EEPROM because it resonated for some reason, which at one point I backronym'd, but can't remember what I came up with (it really stands for Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory).

I might, for the purposes of this writing experiment, add in some .hack//SIGN and Ghost in the Shell tunes (See-Saw, Origa, and Yoko Kanno for the most part) which aren't originally in this mix but have the appropriate mien; also wishing I had more Imogen Heap.

(Heh. The auto-detect location thinks I'm in St. Louis.)

Song lyrics for Nikol

Because Nikol asked, and my favorites don't fit in 129 characters. Pick and choose as your need suits you!

Richard Shindell, "Are You Happy Now?"Collapse )

Dave Matthews, "Gravedigger"
When you dig my grave
Can you make it shallow
So that I can feel the rain

Most of Tom Lehrer ever.

Ani Difranco, "Little Plastic Castle"Collapse )

April March, "Chick Habit"
oh, how your bubble's gonna burst
when you meet another nurse
she'll be driving in a hearse

Belle and Sebastian, "I Don"t Love Anyone"Collapse )

Belle and Sebastian, "If You're Feeling Sinister"
But if you are feeling sinister
Go off and see a minister
Chances are you'll probably feel better
If you stayed and played with yourself

Emerald Rose, "Goth Baby"
Now I've got one heart beating
Two holes in my neck
And for three nights running
I've been a nervous wreck
Won't you come and get me honey
For all eternity
You know I've got to love you
You made a vampire out of me

Carly Simon, "You're So Vain"
You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
Don't you?
Don't you?

Citizen Cope, "Pablo Picasso"
Helicopters and cameras all shottin' for the station
They say that a wild man defending his lady
But for some odd reason they keep calling you a painting

Dar Williams, "As Cool As I Am"
You look out of the kitchen window and you shake your head and say low,
’if I could believe that stuff, I’d say that woman has a halo,’
And I look out and say, ’yeah, she’s really blond,’

The Dresden Dolls, "The Jeep Song"Collapse )

The Dresden Dolls, "Perfect Fit"
i used to be the tight one
the perfect fit
funny how those compliments can
make you feel so full of it

I love them, but They Might Be Giants has some really bad lyrics. "I turned off my hearing aid," "What's that blue thing doing there," "Please pass the milk please," "Mysterious whisper," etc.

I'm trying to think of something that's not completely obvious--I can't even listen to a lot of modern popular music because they lyrics are so inane.

I also love Ben Folds, and I enjoy "Song for the Dumped," but I can't honestly say the lyrics are good.
Give me my money back
I want my money back
Give me my money back, you bitch
And don't forget to give me back my black T-shirt

Then there's Neutral Milk Hotel. Love them--but their lyrics make no sense. They sound great, but if you just look at the words your brain wants to run away and hide. Example from "Two Headed Boy."Collapse )

As I understand it, the lyrics of Pearl Jam's "Yellow Ledbetter" aren't the point of the song--which is good, because I really struggle to find the story in them. The song is good, but the lyrics appear to be gibberishCollapse )

Meet Belladonna, the latest addition to my electronics family, thanks to Graydancer.

I'll update more eventually.

Question of the Day

What is the difference between sex and !sex (not-sex)?

One of my huge pet peeves is people who post anything on the internet under their significant other's account/screen name.

I can understand if it's a joint computer and someone forgot to sign out, or you're borrowing your SO's machine and forgot to switch--but for the love of codependency, if you have to make more than one statement on any particular registration-required medium for any reason, get your own damn account.

Group creative endeavors squeak by, as do multiple systems--but if you occupy a separate body, you are physically and mentally capable of posting to the internet yourself, and there is no good reason for co-opting another's account (laziness does not qualify): please, please, please, claim a distinct internet identity.

As a side-note, while I can understand the convenience of one account per physical pair of hands, it would also be great for system journals who do not have separate accounts for each member to at least identify each post by who's fronting to write it. If you're not sure, or your system doesn't work like that, or all/most posts are collective efforts, fine; but if you are separate people and writing as such, it's a whole lot easier not to have to piece who's writing what together by writing style or attitude. You have a name for a reason; use it.
